Sample Emails to Political Parties
Letter to the Labour Party:
I am an assistant minister at a church with over 500 people on our role and a large website ministry which reaches all New Zealand.
I have never made any public recommendations to our parishoners about how to vote (including legislation related to Civil Unions and Prostitution Reform). However, that is about to change.
I am writing to inform you that I will be seeking to discourage people from voting for the Labour party (and the Greens) at the next election. The reason for this is that it has voted as a bloc in favour of Sue Bradford's Bill. This bill will criminalise what I believe is loving parenting; I believe it will also contribute to greater violence in our society as it takes responsibility away from parents for raising their children. I also fear for the power that it gives the state over loving parents.
I am aware that with the MMP form of government in New Zealand, the only power avaliable to citizens to repeal legislation they disapprove of is to elect alternative governments. I will therefore be encouraging both our parishoners and any New Zealander who will listen to me not to vote for any person or party who supports this legislation.
I repeat, I have never done this before. My encouragement to those members of the Labour party who do not privately support this bill, and who may be being bullied into supporting it, is to have the courage and the integrity to oppose legislation which gives draconian powers to the state. If you do not, you will be responsible for the state having such powers, and New Zealand no longer being free.

I also fear for the power that it gives the state over loving parents. It is total hypcrisy of the most dangerous form for the state to take away parents right to use force while at the same time retaining the right to use force to enforce legislation.

Letter to the ACT party:
I am an assistant minister at a church with over 500 people on our role and a large website ministry which reaches all New Zealand.
I have never made any public recommendations to our parishoners about how to vote (including legislation related to Civil Unions and Prostitution Reform). However, that is about to change.
For the first time, I am encouraging our parishoners and listeners to only vote for those parties which oppose Sue Bradford's Bill. This Bill is completely undemocratic and respresents a terrifying move in our country towards state control. The bill will criminalise what I believe is loving parenting; I believe it will also contribute to greater violence in our society as it takes responsibility away from parents for raising their children. I also fear for the power that it gives the state over loving parents. It is total hypcrisy of the most dangerous form for the state to take away parent's right to use force while at the same time retaining the right to use force to enforce legislation.

As a party who values freedom, and is eager to respresent people democratically, could I please urge you to have as policy for the next election that you will introduce a bill overturning Sue Bradford's bill. If any party were to do this, they would have my full support and I would actively seek to encourage people to vote for them.
I repeat, I have never done this before.
